How to apply for FCPS Part 1 online: step-by-step (2026)
The CPSP portal isn't intuitive. Here's the document checklist, the application flow, the most common rejection reasons, and the gotchas that catch every cycle.
The CPSP online application portal isn't winning any UX awards, but the process itself is straightforward once you know the order. Here's the step-by-step we walk new candidates through, with the gotchas that catch people every cycle.
Before you start: documents you'll need scanned
Get these ready as PDF or JPEG (under 1 MB each, CPSP rejects larger files). Saves you 30 minutes of mid-application panic.
- CNIC — front + back, or NICOP if overseas
- MBBS degree or transcript (final-year provisional letter is accepted if degree not yet issued)
- Internship completion certificate from your house-job institution, signed by the medical superintendent
- PMC (Pakistan Medical Commission) registration certificate — must be currently valid, not expired
- Recent passport-size photo — white background, JPEG, <200 KB. Don't use a selfie. Studio photo only.
- Bank pay-order or online payment receipt (you'll generate this during the application)
The #1 reason applications get rejected: expired PMC registration. Renew it before you apply, not after. Renewal takes 2–6 weeks via PMC's online portal.
Step-by-step
1. Register on the CPSP candidate portal
Go to cpsp.edu.pk and click "Online Application". Create an account using your CNIC + email + phone number. The system will email you a verification code.
Gotcha: Use an email you'll keep for years. Result notifications, certificate dispatch updates, even fellowship applications later all go to this email.
2. Fill the personal details form
- Name exactly as on CNIC — including surname, hyphens, capitalisation. CPSP cross-checks with NADRA. A typo here = application held in review for 4–6 weeks.
- Date of birth — must match CNIC.
- Father's name — same rule, CNIC-exact.
- Permanent address — CNIC address. Postal address can differ (where admit card is mailed).
3. Education + internship details
- MBBS institution (drop-down — make sure it's listed; if not, your application can't proceed online and you need to email CPSP)
- Year of MBBS completion + roll number
- Internship hospital + start/end dates (one full year minimum)
- Upload internship certificate
4. Pick your exam sitting + centre
FCPS Part 1 is held twice a year — typically April and October (sometimes August). Submission deadlines are 6–8 weeks before each sitting.
Centres available (varies slightly each cycle):
- Karachi — main CPSP HQ centre, largest capacity
- Lahore — Punjab regional centre
- Islamabad — Federal regional centre
- Peshawar, Quetta, Multan, Hyderabad, Faisalabad — secondary centres, smaller capacity
- Overseas — Dubai, Riyadh, Doha (selected sittings only)
Pick based on travel logistics, not on rumours about easier marking. CPSP marking is centralised; centre doesn't affect your paper.
5. Pay the fee
- Online card payment (Visa/Mastercard) — instant confirmation
- 1Link bank transfer — confirmation within 24 hours
- Pay order to CPSP Karachi — slowest, 3–5 working days for confirmation. Only use if cards aren't an option.
See our FCPS Part 1 fee guide for the current amount and refund rules.
6. Submit + print the receipt
Once payment is verified, the system marks your application as "Submitted". Print the confirmation receipt and keep a digital copy. This receipt is your proof if anything goes wrong with the admit card.
7. Wait for admit card
Issued 7–14 days before the exam. Delivered by:
- Email (PDF) — most candidates get this version
- Postal mail — backup, sometimes the only path for overseas centres
- Portal download — log back into the CPSP portal and download from your dashboard
If you don't have your admit card 5 days before exam day, email CPSP immediately (cpsp@cpsp.edu.pk) with your application reference number. They prioritise these.
Common rejection reasons (and how to avoid them)
| Reason | Fix before submitting |
|---|---|
| Name mismatch with CNIC | Re-check character by character — case, hyphens, spaces matter |
| Expired PMC registration | Renew before applying; takes 2–6 weeks |
| Internship certificate missing MS signature | Send it back to your house-job hospital for the signature |
| Photo: wrong size, dark background, glasses with reflection | Studio photo, white background, no glasses, neutral expression |
| Bank receipt unreadable / cropped | Re-scan at 300 DPI, full document visible |
| Application submitted on the deadline day | Submit 7+ days early — late portal submissions sometimes don't process before cut-off |
Application is rejected — what now?
- Read the rejection email carefully — it'll list the specific issue.
- Fix it (usually documents, sometimes name correction via NADRA).
- Resubmit before the cycle deadline if there's still time, or roll to the next sitting.
- If you've already paid and can't re-submit in time, follow up via email + phone for a deferral. CPSP usually grants this for documentation issues.
Exam-day checklist
- ✅ Admit card (printed colour copy + the PDF on your phone)
- ✅ Original CNIC
- ✅ 2 black ballpoint pens (no pencils accepted on the answer sheet)
- ✅ Watch (analogue is allowed; some centres ban digital)
- ✅ Water bottle (clear, label removed)
- ✅ Light jacket (centres are AC-cold)
- ❌ No phone, no calculator, no smartwatch, no notes — these get you disqualified
The honest summary
The application itself takes 30–60 minutes if your documents are ready. The hard part is the prep that comes before it. Don't pay until you've taken at least 1 full timed mock and scored above 65% — that's the price-of-attempt threshold for first-attempt success.
Use ReviseFCPS1 to take a full mock under timed conditions before you commit — free for 7 days. 8,236 real recalls and 10,176 doctor-verified MCQs.
