The hamstrings (tibial division of the sciatic nerve) extend the hip and flex the knee.
THE HAMSTRINGS
• Semitendinosus + semimembranosus (medial) → insert on the medial tibia.
• Biceps femoris (lateral): long head (tibial division) + short head (common fibular division) → inserts on the fibular head.
• "True" hamstrings arise from the ischial tuberosity and cross both joints.
