Beta-Blockers — Selective vs Non-Selective
⭐ PREMIUM
β1-Selective (cardio-selective) — mnemonic A BEAM:
• Atenolol
• Bisoprolol
• Esmolol
• Acebutolol
• Metoprolol
Useful in: COPD/asthma (relatively safer), DM (less hypoglycaemia masking)
Non-Selective (β1 + β2):
• Propranolol, Nadolol, Timolol, Pindolol, Sotalol
• Avoid in asthma — can cause bronchospasm
α + β blockers: Carvedilol, Labetalol (used in HF, hypertensive emergencies)
